In 2018, the Walton Family Foundation, with direct support from Alice and Jim Walton, launched the Building Equity Initiative (BEI), an unprecedented effort to make it easier and more affordable for public charter schools to find, secure and renovate facilities.
Three years later, we’ve deployed $185 million in BEI resources that will benefit more than 28,000 students. This figure does not capture the untold hours saved by educators who no longer have to act as real estate agents, lawyers or financiers in order to lead a school.
The new Building Equity Initiative: Year 3 Report details this progress, and how the BEI is taking facilities burdens off the shoulders of educators.
