In this report, Context Network presents three case studies of past introductions, or expansions, of new crops to the market. The examples of soy, canola and camelina were examined to identify the key success factors for expansion – such as reliable market support, a demonstrated value proposition and risk management. In addition, the case studies describe what roles the government, universities, philanthropy, financial institutions, and the private sector played in the process. Learning from the past can help inform future work related to crop diversification.
